Who We Are

Benico, Ltd. was founded in September 1981 by John & Pam Garven. Prior to incorporating their business on April 6, 1983, the Garvens operated their business beginning in September of 1981 under the DBA of The Greater Northern Illinois Group.

John and Pam, both born and raised in Lake County, Illinois, moved their firm’s offices from Waukegan to Arlington Heights in March of 1983. From 1983-1990 Benico was associated with a commercial property & casualty firm known as Assurance Agency, and it was there that John was instrumental in starting up the firm’s employee benefits practice from scratch. Following John’s tenure with Assurance Agency, Benico’s offices were relocated and in December of 1997 the Garvens moved their firm’s offices to permanent owned facilities at 11715 E. Main Street in Huntley.

The Garvens have lived in Huntley since 1993, and have been married since 1977. The couple’s children and grandchildren all live in the area. John and Pam serve as lay pastors at Morning Star Church in Huntley. Also, John has been active over the years in the Huntley Area Chamber of Commerce & Industry, is a former member of the board of Consolidated School District 158 in Algonquin, and is a member of several professional associations, including the National Association of Health Underwriters (NAHU), the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), the Wellness Council of America (WELCOA), and the Profit Sharing/401(k) Council of America (PSCA).
