Huntley, Illinois (July 6, 2005) — John Garven of Benico, Ltd. recently received the Distinguished Service Award at the National Association of Health Underwriter’s 75th Annual Convention in Miami Beach, Florida.
The Distinguished Service Award honors NAHU members who have performed special service at the local, state or national level over an extended period of time. The Award is granted to only 12 members each year out of a national membership of over 20,000.
Mr. Garven was recognized for this award for his significant legislative activities, particularly at the state level, as well as for having launched and continuing to manage websites for the Illinois State Association of Health Underwriters (www.isahu.com) and for his own chapter which he co founded in 2004, the Northern Illinois Association of Health Underwriters (www.niahu.org). This Award was actually the second such award that John has received during his career, the first one coming in 1997.
“The judges felt that John clearly demonstrated the leadership and dedication that this award was designed to recognize,” said Scott Shalek, immediate past president of the Northern Illinois Association of Health Underwriters. “With his 27 years of membership, his leadership in the legislative arena in Illinois, and his commitment to enhancing communications with members and providing education on insurance and employee benefits issues to the public, John has proven his commitment to and passion for this field. He was a clear winner for this award.”
